music

All of the songs were written in KL, Malaysia, one of my two home towns. The other being Dublin, Ireland. The essence of all these tunes is consistently my reflections on life’s rhyme and reason. Black Bird White Cloud was written the morning after staying up late and burning the midnight oil with an Irish friend who lives and works in KL. We had been up until 4 in the morning watching and listening to DVDs, CDs and Videos of the works of the late and great Irish music legend, Rory Gallagher. I was inspired, and woke up 3 hours later with his energy pulling on the melody lines in my head. He played me into that tune. Thank you, Rory! Of course there was no wine involved : )

Rain was another inspired moment. This time with Salim and our mate, the very beautiful violinist, Anna Hill. It was brought on by the torrent of unrelenting magic that is the Monsoon season. The rain comes down as a blessing from the heavens to wash away the grit and grime of city living to leave behind a fresh space for realising dreams. So we realised a song in thanks. We had good jam sessions making that tune in our bedroom.

There are varied experiences that have gone into the basis of all the tunes written and still being written. The magic though is in how it conveys to your interpretations and how you feel when the sounds hit your ears. It’s all valid, good or bad.
